Weekend Update {and it’s Birthday week!}

I’ve been in West Texas visiting the family for the last five days. We had a great visit catching up with cousins, parents, grandparents, and siblings. Chloe stayed a few extra days with my parents and every day we were there she would ask “Are you leaving today??” She wasn’t one bit sad when I finally headed back with Jack to Dallas. My mom and dad love to spoil her {and I don’t blame them!} so she was ready to be the absolute boss for a few days.

My niece Julianna turned 9 while we were there! My sister had just found out she was pregnant with her when T and I got married, so it just seems crazy to me that she is 9 years old. She and her sister are both such sweet girls.  Chloe, of course, adores them.

Here they are playing Just Dance on the Wii.

Poor Jack, he was the only boy cousin this time!

It was a great visit {the Moore girls even got to sneak away to a chick flick- we missed you Ames!} but I sure did miss my man. But, he was able to concentrate on work for a few days and not have to worry about working late, etc. I am thinking, though, that by day five, the house was too lonely and he was ready to see us!

After I got back, we were able to spend a lazy Sunday together and give Jack our undivided attention, which he completely loves. And we do, too. He is changing so much and we can’t get enough of his new words and funny mannerisms.

And now, it’s birthday week! Trey is off work today {Happy President’s Day!} so we plan on going on an outing with Jack and then I will do a few birthday errands sans kids. I can’t believe our girl will be four a week from today! I have absolutely, positively loved the age of three. I know four will be wonderful, but I definitely have a little ache in my heart that another year has come and gone. She is just becoming a big girl and I can’t help but remember those sweet little hands and tiny toes of four years ago and long to hold that baby again! See what I mean??? Big. Girl.

So, here’s your warning for a sappy week of blog posts. But, birthday week is going to be lots of fun too. Stay tuned!

Good for the soul.

Dallas has definitely become home. Remember this post? I love it here, and I honestly can’t imagine raising our family anywhere else. It is perfect for us, for now, and we don’t plan on moving unless God calls us to do that someday.

But there are two places that I still call home besides Big D, and I got to visit them both a couple of weeks ago. These two places {San Angelo and College Station} are very near and dear to my heart, and both places are just good for my soul. My soul needed some refreshing, and these visits were perfect for that.

First, while T was working in D.C., I spent a few days with my family in West Texas. I went to surprise my sister for her birthday, visit with my parents and grandparents, and spend time with my great-aunt who was in town. My momma’s cooking + good visits with family + watching the Rangers with my dad {even though we lost} = perfection. Driving back, I snapped a couple of pictures and sent them to Trey with a text that read “We will have a house out here someday.” That is definitely a dream, to buy land and a house out that way, somewhere between Dallas and San Angelo. It would be a place to visit on the weekends and spend holidays. I’m glad I married a man who loves to dream and loves West Texas almost as much as me. Anyway, here are a few pictures from my visit.

My beautiful momma and Chloe.

Here’s Chloe with my favorite Great-Aunt Rita. She is a blessing to be around. And the way my kids adore her remind me of how much I adored her as a child. She used to take me to McDonald’s and buy me Happy Meals. She is my favorite aunt for a reason. ;)

This is the birthday girl with my grandmother and mother. I love that we got to spend her birthday together eating Mexican food and playing with her new Cricut.

These are the iPhone pics I took of the sunrise and sky out west. It is even bigger and more beautiful in person. If you’re not from there, you’ll probably think it’s nothing special. But don’t tell me that, because I love this place.

I can totally picture myself sitting on the front porch of some beautiful ranch house in West Texas- sipping my yummy coffee and enjoying the amazing sunrise and the big sky. Wanna come?

Stay tuned for part 2- a quick visit to Aggieland!

Visiting the ‘rents

The kids and I left Monday for a week in West Texas. We have been eating lots of home cooking and Mexican food, visiting with family, and enjoying life a little slower. We have also been to Sonic every day. Surprised? I haven’t had a moment to spare, but Krista did send me this and I had to share. This is SO me! If you didn’t know already I am completely and unabashedly addicted to Happy Hour at Sonic. I go EVERY day and I almost definitely went through withdrawals when we were stuck at the house for days in the Crazy Winter Storm of 2011. If you come to my house in the near future, you WILL see this hanging somewhere. Love it!

Week in SA

>Chloe and I made our first trip together to San Angelo this week! Trey was in D.C. for work, so I headed out west to see Cookie and Dandy. Chloe sure had fun seeing her grandparents and of course her cousin Simon! She also had her first experiences at all the great places to eat- including T’s and Ichibans (Yes, Jana, I know you’re jealous!!).

And, is it just me, or is her hair getting more red every day??!! Check out that last picture!
