Sister time!

What is better than a sizzling skillet of chicken fajitas from Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth?

Sharing them with my sister!

Our love for sharing fajitas goes back to college days at A&M. My freshman year was her 5th year there. I’m not sure I would have survived that first year without Amy and all of her friends making me feel so welcome! I was “little sis” to everyone, which it made transitioning to a new place so much easier! I already had a church to go to, a place to do my laundry, and a sister that happened to be a senior who was able to pull the BEST seats for football games. Whoop!

We started our fajita tradition by heading to Garcia’s {no relation to Joe T., that I know of} once a week for lunch. We made it there pretty much every Friday and would also celebrate there after a big test or an Aggie football win! Oh, how I miss those days. Sad news, a few years after I graduated, Garcia’s closed it’s doors. Now it’s a Fudruckers. I can’t think of anything worse than going from the BEST Mexican food in town to that. {I’m clearly not a fan of the Fudruckers}.

After college, Amy moved to Houston and we continued our fajita tradition there as often as we could. I made at least a few visits every semester for the next few years and so Pappasito’s on Kirby became our new Garcia’s. Their fajitas became our new favorite and we shared many memories {and tortillas!!} there over the years.

After college, Trey and I moved to Dallas. We had only been living here a year or so when Amy got a new job in Fort Worth! It was so exciting to have her so close!! And when she introduced me Joe T’s, we knew we had our new fajita spot. It’s hands-down my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant ever! {Gasp! I know you thought it was Chuy’s!!}

Well, husbands, jobs, and now FIVE kids between the two of us, our fajita sharing is not quite as often. But we were able to get away one night last week and have sister time. This time it also included Starbucks and Target shopping together, where there are always memories made and inside jokes re-visited and laugh-until-you-cry moments. I love that she only lives an hour from me, and we are determined to start making sister time a priority! Can’t wait for the next one, Ames*! YFS**

*WE MISSED YOU, ANGIE!!!! Sister time is never the same when we’re not all three together.

**YFS= Yo Fave Sis. Angie and Amy know the origination of this better than me, but I think they started it passing notes to each other in high school?! All I know is that for the last 20 or so years, we end every text, card, email, etc. to each other with YFS. It’s a Moore girl thing :)

Oh yes, we did.

Well, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, or if you know me in real life, then you know we are addicted to Mexican food. Like really bad. As in we eat it no less than three times a week and pretty much every weekend you’ll find us at either Chuy’s, Uncle Julios, Torchy’s, or Chiloso. And we’ve been known to frequent Chuy’s more than once a week. So, when it comes to Cinco de Mayo, we have to celebrate Tex-Mex style!

So first we dressed up {oh yes we did!}:

Then we got together with friends at Pappasitos!

We ended the celebration at Yumilicious where I enjoyed Avocado yogurt! {No one else I know loves the stuff but it is TO. DIE. FOR. Seriously. And it went along with the Cinco de Mayo theme, too!}

What a fun day with family and friends!

On Sunday we were blessed to be a part of the baptism day at our church. One of the guys in our community group was baptized and watching his little 4-year-old daughter clap for him was one of the sweetest things ever! Richard was also baptized. It was such a special moment! We are so thankful for him in our lives, and we were so happy to be with him on this special day! Jenn wrote a sweet post about him here. We love you guys!

I’m Dreaming of a White…

Dip called Creamy Jalapeno, chips, and a real coke. {But I wouldn’t mind a White Christmas, too!}

I know this doesn’t surprise you. Y’all know how much I love Tex-Mex food, right? We seriously go to Chuy’s waaaay too often {but we are doing much better than in the past- it used to be at least once a week!}.

I remember taking this pic of Chloe at 18 months…20111130-070257.jpg

And here’s Jack last weekend {also at 18 months}…20111130-070227.jpg

I’m so proud!! My kids LOVE Mexican food! I’m not sure if it’s because I ate it all the time when pregnant or if it’s because they are forced to like it since we eat it all the time now or maybe all kids like tortillas?? All I can say that when we say we’re going to Chuy’s {or the other occasional Tex-Mex restaurant} Chloe jumps up and down, claps, and goes to get her shoes on as fast as possible. And, I have a feeling it won’t be long until Jack is doing the same. Just like their mama!

P.S.- Not long after I met Krista {who BTW has a new blog!!!!} she called a flour tortilla a tortilla shell.  Texans just say “tortilla” when talking about a flour tortilla. Do all you southerners call it a tortilla shell?? Because the only thing we call a shell when related to Mexican food is that hard, folded corn tortilla that you get when you order a hard taco from Taco Bell- we call that a taco shell. There are a few other things we’ve discovered over the years that are different too… like in Texas gravy is served with Chicken Strips {in the South it is honey mustard which I think is so weird!}, she calls queso “cheese dip”, she had never heard the word kolache, and sweet tea is served everywhere there and not many places here. {And I’m fine with that- I like only unsweetened tea. It’s a miracle that we’re friends! ;)}Anyway, just so funny how growing up a few states away can make you say things like “tortilla shell”. I’ll never let her live that one down!

Not-so-wordless Wednesday

Sorry for the drought in posts. It’s been busy around here!

1. I am planning for a baby shower at my house next weekend. One of my college roommates is having a baby girl, and it will be the first big event at my new house! I couldn’t put off hanging pictures any longer, so most walls now have something on them. This house is really starting to feel like home, and that feels good.

2. Jack turned 4 months last week.  The doctor said he’s not gaining enough weight, so I was prescribed a high-fat diet. Can I get a whoop? So, no more Weight Watchers for now. I still want to lose a few more pounds, but that will have to wait! In the mean time I have been enjoying burgers, fries, pizza, Chuy’s, etc. Not exactly sure if that’s what the doctor had in mind, but I’m doing it for the sake of my boy, right?! Otherwise he is healthy and as cute as can be. He is rolling over both ways, giggling a ton, and enjoying his first meals of rice cereal. His reflux seems to be better right now, and he is back to sleeping at least 7 hours at night. I just love my little man.

3.  Chloe has been at my parents’ house since Sunday. She was not one bit sad to leave her mama for a few days, but I sure was! I am heading down there with Jack today and I can’t wait to see my girl. I will say, it was a nice break only having one kid. I went to stores like Sample House and JoAnns and Target where it was so easy to look around and not have to entertain a 2 year old. Trey and I talked in the car (a rarity these days) and enjoyed some quality time together. It was also great to have a little extra time with Jack. Of course, when Chloe is around, he just doesn’t get all of my attention. I think he and I both liked that he got all of me this week.

4. There is nothing I crave more than creamy jalapeno, chips, and a real Coke from Chuy’s.

5. I upgraded my iPhone 3G with the 4 and I am in love. I can now listen to Pandora and check my e-mail and Facebook all at the same time (kind of). It is delightful. My new favorite apps are Fruit Ninja (thanks to Kristin, I am addicted), Newsie (have I told y’all about this? It is a blog reader app that accesses your Google reader, then displays it in e-mail format. It is a dream come true if you love to read blogs but don’t have time to click on each one every day.) and ESPN ScoreCenter. (I’ve had this one, but didn’t know it had alerts- now it texts me the final score of the Rangers and Aggies. Oh, and the Cowboys. Don’t even get me started. For real.)

6. I miss my girl. Did I already say that?

Well, I better get to packing. We are celebrating both my grandmother and grandfather’s 80th birthdays on Saturday night with the whole gang. Can’t wait to see everyone. Especially my girl!

Someone else…

likes Tex-Mex too!

Things I like right now

Mexican Food. Ok, so I have always liked this but what is it about summer time and Tex-Mex? I just crave places like Chuy’s, Uncle Julio’s, Mi Cocina, and Chiloso. I would seriously eat Mexican food for every meal if our budget would allow. Good thing it doesn’t, because all I want is fattening stuff like queso and tortillas, which go straight to my you-know-what. BTW, I am pretty sure I just convinced the husband to take me to one of these places for lunch- yum. I am so happy he likes Mexican food almost as much as me.

Tori and Dean, Home Sweet Hollywood. It’s my guilty pleasure. Seriously, this show is not that good but I can’t stop watching. I love to watch their story unfold & I especially like her choice of baby names- Liam and Stella. How cute are those? Maybe it’s from my 90210 watching days, but I just love that Donna Martin. I even bought her new book, Mommywood, which by the way Trey is making so fun of me for. He says it’d be like him buying a book by Spencer Pratt. If anyone gets this analogy please let me know, because the two are not comparable in my world.

Lawn Service. This is the first year we have spent the money to hire someone to mow the yard and do all of the treatments. What a great investment. Seriously. Our yard is green and pretty and this is the first year (no offense, T, I know you tried) that I am not scared to go in the grass without shoes. I am also thankful for the extra however many hours I get to spend with my husband and kid on Saturday morning instead of him being outside (except for right now- he is doing the flowerbeds as we speak, but that doesn’t take near as long as the whole mow/weed eat/edge/fertilize/water thing did). Again, thank you Lawn Lab for my pretty yard.

I better get ready. Uncle Julio’s is waiting!

Weekend in Cowtown

>

We spent the weekend with my sister and her husband in Fort Worth this weekend! We had the best time. Friday, we went and helped our friends Emily and Brad move to their first house. It is a gorgeous home in Benbroook, and if they had a blog (hint, hint) I know they’d share pictures. It was so good to see them and Emily’s family, the McCarys. Emily- your mother is such a hoot. I just adore her. You are blessed with an amazing family!

On Saturday morning my sis fixed us muffins and I taught Allen a favorite card game of ours…Spite and Malice. And he got beat. Bad. Twice with me and once with Trey. Sorry Al, I just had to rub it in. Then we ventured to our most favorite place in all of DFW (not kidding) – Joe T. Garcia’s. Whoever that man is, he must be a saint. His fajitas are out of this world. And the patio? Well if you haven’t experienced it you have no idea. Let me just say that we were sitting by a pool, surrounded by beautiful landscaping…all while enjoying the BEST Mexican food I’ve ever had (except for that one time in Cozumel, remember Amy and Emily?).

So, thanks to the Dantzlers for a great weekend in Cowtown. We’ll see you in Forney very soon!
