Flapjack Party, Take 3!

Jack is THREE! I honestly can’t believe my baby is three.

To celebrate, we had Jack’s Flapjack party last weekend! Perfect weather, yummy breakfast foods, sweet friends and family, and a new bounce house made for another great party!

Jack’s 2nd Birthday Party

We had such a great weekend celebrating our little man’s birthday. Friends and family came over Saturday morning for his “Flapjack” themed party. Jack was so excited all of his favorite people were here to celebrate with him!

Jack was sneaking donut holes long before the party officially started.

Here was the spread {muffin and egg/bacon recipes linked here and I’ll post the casserole recipes soon}:

Here’s the Birthday Boy blowing out his candles!

I didn’t get a picture of all of the guests :( but here are some that I did get:

Cookie and Dandy were so happy to have all six grandkids under one roof:

I ordered 40 Instagram prints from Postal Pix and strung them around the house. I think everyone enjoyed seeing pictures of Jack throughout the year!

The police car hasn’t left his hands since opening his presents :)!

Whew! Another successful party has come and gone! I love seeing all of our friends and family in one place at one time. Thanks everyone for celebrating with us! Now for his birthday tomorrow…. the Dallas Zoo with friends, Chuy’s, and a cake from Society Bakery are on the agenda!

It’s birthday week for Jack!

He is so excited about his birthday! He wakes up every morning saying “My birfday’s comin’ up!” When you ask him what he wants for his birthday, he says Pancakes and Spiderman. He know’s he’s turning two and will try so hard to show us his two with his fingers, even though he can’t get it quite down yet!

I’m so excited for his party this weekend, but a little sad that my baby is going to be two. *Sniff* We’re using the same theme, decorations, and menu as last year {with a few changes to keep it fun!} so it has been fairly easy to get everything ready.

Here’s the menu for Saturday. Oh, yum.

  • Flapjacks and homemade syrup {my daddy’s recipe}
  • Trey’s mom’s cheese casserole {recipe coming}
  • My mom’s sausage egg casserole {a family favorite}
  • Pioneer Woman’s French Breakfast Puffs {we had these for the first time at an Easter brunch and they were so good!}
  • Donut Hole Skewers {from Pinterest!}
  • These “Egg and Bacon” snacks {from Pinterest}
  • Fresh fruit tray

I think that’s it! Whew, I have a lot to do before Saturday morning! I’ve ordered some Instagram prints {are you an Instagram-er? If so, follow me @ssclemens and I’ll follow back!} to string around the house and the kids’ new pajamas came in this week. I’ve finished up his birthday shopping, so now it’s just decorating and cooking. I better get busy!

Jack’s Flapjack Party

We rescheduled the big party for last weekend and it was a success. We had a smaller crowd than normal, but that ended up being great because it was just relaxed and super easy (although we missed you if you couldn’t come!). We really got a chance to visit and the kids had tons of fun playing.

The flapjack theme was thought up because on his actual birthday we had his plus two other parties to go to. I wanted to do something in the morning, so a breakfast-themed party was in order! Our house was easily transitioned into “Jack’s Original Flapjack House”. I invested in a few key pieces hoping this will be an annual tradition for our Jack!

I made the front door sign and the chalkboard menu using chalkboard paint and my favorite Chalk Ink markers. We had a coffee bar set up with lots of yummy coffees and creamers. I found the mugs at Goodwill and after a deep cleaning, I personalized them with Sharpie Paint Markers.

I had so much fun with this theme! I found the paper placemats online at Retroplanet.com and laminated them for future use. The small red frames came from Michael’s dollar section, and with a little red spray paint and some chalkboard paper, they became cute labels for the food. The kid’s activity was to make cereal necklaces. It was a hit!

Here’s the birthday boy! It took him a while to warm up to the idea, but eventually he loved his cupcake.

The picture in the middle is when we were singing to Jack. He had a death grip on his high chair and didn’t let go for a while!

I made the cupcakes using this recipe and the toppers and banner with scrapbook paper and my Cricut. The cupcake holders came from none other than Christmas Tree Shops. I was unsure of how many guests would want a cupcake that early in the morning, so I bought cupcake boxes so they could take one {or two} home.

All in all, it was a great party and I am glad we finally got to officially celebrate our little man’s big day. I honestly can’t believe he’s already one. This is such a cliché to say, but it seems like yesterday when we were meeting him for the first time. Happy birthday, sweet boy! Looking forward to all that comes with you being one- walking, talking, and tons of fun!

A few bullets for you on this lovely Thursday morning

  • This is my new favorite Etsy shop. I found the cutest outfit for Jack to wear on his birthday, which is coming up in just a little over two weeks. INSERT TEARS HERE. Seriously, where has the time gone?
  • We have started the boy on whole milk. My grocery bill just got cut in half. PTL!
  • Are any of you waking up super early tomorrow to watch the wedding of Kate and her Prince? I will be perched on the couch dressed in my cutest pj’s with a lovely, large, strong cup of {caramel} coffee at promtly 4am to watch the Today Show’s coverage. I know that’s what DVR is for, but for some reason I think I need to watch it live and in peace. Ya know, before the hoodlums wake up and want to watch Jake and the Neverland Pirates instead. I’m so excited!
  • I went swimsuit shopping yesterday. This was not fun. If you have any suggestions of where I can find a one-piece swimsuit (because two pieces are loooong gone) please chime in. Also read this post because it seems that others hate trying on swimwear almost as much as me.
  • I just read on my Dallas food blog that there will be an In-n-Out burger approximately 2 miles from my house. This will not help with the swimsuit situation. But being the cheeseburger lover that I am, that news made my day week.
  • And on that note- T came in from work last night and showed me that he could shake his Aggie ring off of his finger. Y’all, that is crazy! He has lost 40 pounds. Yes, you read that right. FORTY. He’s been doing a boot camp since August and we’ve also made some significant changes to our eating habits. And by significant I mean not going to Chuy’s every single weekend and cutting out donuts and french fries and Freebirds, just to name a few. I have to give him a shout out because he has worked so hard and looks pretty darn good!
  • Jack’s “flapjack” birthday party planning is coming along! Again, Christmas Tree Shops has come through with some great finds. You have to go there. It’s not Christmas stuff. Believe me, I don’t get the name either. Just trust me and Google it to see if there is one near you.

That’s all I got. Have a great Thursday Day-Before-the-Royal-Wedding! Oh, and go to bed early tonight so you can get up at 4am and watch it all live. Or stay in bed like a normal, sane person and watch it on DVR later. Either way.
