The Adventures of Superman and Barbie Princess/Popstar.

We had a great time celebrating Halloween! First, we joined Tripp and Mia at their annual Halloween party. Jenn throws the best parties! We had lots of yummy treats, including pumpkin grilled cheeses and sand”witches” that were too cute! We painted pumpkins, played games, and just had fun with friends! Thanks for the great party!

A family in our community group throw a Halloween party every year, and we are so glad it worked out this year for us to go to the Potter’s party! Both the kids were so excited to put on their costumes! We borrowed Jack’s Superman costume from the Potters and those red undies… they make me smile! Chloe was Barbie Princess AND the Popstar. It’s from a new Barbie movie, and I think she was the perfect princess/popstar combo!

And on Halloween night we had our second annual pizza and trick-or-treating with our beach buddies.

Oh, I love these kids! {and not pictured is Baby Brooks! He’ll be in there next year for sure!!}

We make it up and down TWO streets this year! Jack loved trick or treating— last year he wasn’t walking {at 17 months} and so this was really his first year to do it. He carried that bucket {even when it got really heavy!} the whole night and was so proud of all is candy!

My beautiful Barbie Princess/Popstar! She is getting so big!

Oh, the red undies again. LOVE.

We had such a wonderful October, and now we are ready for a season of thanks and the most wonderful time of the year! And there’s nothing like November 1st to get you into the season…I went to Starbucks this morning on the way to physical therapy and this is what I got:

YAY! Their Caramel Brulee Latte is one of my favorite things about this time of year.

Now I just need to load my Christmas music on the iPod! :)

the weekend.

Here’s our weekend in pictures!

Saturday was our last soccer game. We celebrated after the game at Braum’s with ice cream and trophies. Chloe was so, so happy to get a trophy. She said, “I can’t believe we won!” Of course, everyone gets the same trophy, but that didn’t matter to Pink Lightning!

While we were visiting with friends, this little boy was being mischievous! He found my camera, put it around his neck and was acting like he was taking pictures just like mommy. It was awesome. And have I mentioned I love that grin and those blue eyes???

Saturday night we had to have our Auburn friends over for the A&M/Auburn game! It was the first time we’ve had to root against each other! Since meeting Krista and hearing about Auburn, it seems so similar to A&M in so many ways. So, it’s been easy to become an Auburn fan over the years. But Saturday night, of course, we were happy for the Aggie win! Thanks, K, for coming and being a good sport about it all! I don’t think we rubbed it in too badly- we did put in our second and third strings for the whole second half…so it could have been a lot worse! {you know I had to!} There will be many more Aggie/Tiger match ups now that we’re in the SEC, so I know I’ll get my share of grief!

Chloe and Owen sporting their Aggie & Tiger gear!

Sunday morning this dude woke me up quite early begging to put on his costume. So we did! We borrowed it from a friend, and I just love my little Superman!

Sunday was very busy. We went to church and then lunch with friends at our new favorite chicken place. Then I had an appointment at Drybar {can you say addicted??} before our family pictures! Here’s a pic the photographer snapped with my phone… I can’t wait to see the rest! We love Haley B!

Our pictures ended up getting done earlier than we thought, so we were so excited that we were able to go to our CG friends’ Halloween Party! The Potters know how to throw a party! There was a pinata and games and treats galore. Our kids had so much fun!

Needless to say, we were worn out by Sunday evening! Trey and Jack watched the last of the {terrible} Cowboy game, and with that our fun weekend came to an end!

We have a busy week ahead and we’re all looking forward to trick-or-treating with friends on Halloween!

Teacher-friends.

Last weekend I got the chance to hang out with my first teaching neighbor, Jessica, and her family. Jessica was my lifesaver my first year of teaching. She had one year behind her, and that meant she knew way more than me! We became “twinkies” that year, doing so much teaching stuff together and even dressing alike {not planned!} at work on many occasions! We were just two peas in a pod and I am so thankful God put me in her path! She moved the very next year {*tears*} but we have stayed close! I was even honored to be a bridesmaid in her wedding in 2008. They moved to Houston a few years ago, and that meant our visits were few and far between.

Jessica and Nick had twins a couple of months after Jack was born. Stella and Sloane are two of the cutest, sweetest little girls and we had so much fun visiting with them over the weekend. We were able to see each other THREE times while they were here for a wedding, which made their visit so much better! One of our visits was at the Arboretum, where we got to show the Stevens’ the beautiful pumpkins and enjoy the perfect weather.

I’m so thankful I got to meet up with my sweet friend and her family! Can’t wait until next time!

And if that weren’t enough teacher-friend time for me, I got to sneak away Sunday night and enjoy a girls night out with my favorite teaching team! I taught third grade with these ladies for two years, and they were definitely my favorite two years of teaching. I love these women! We connected immediately because of our love and commitment to Jesus Christ, our passion for teaching, and our love for kids! One of theses ladies told our principal we were getting together, and he just said, “You’re welcome” meaning that he put the five of us together knowing we would be great! Well, Mr. C, you were right!

Being with these ladies made me miss teaching– ok, maybe not the lesson plans, the looonnngg hours, and the stress of high-stakes testing. But I might go back tomorrow if I knew I’d be at the best school ever {Henderson}, with the best principal {Mr. C}, and the best team ever {Wendy, Krista, Ashley, and Brooke!}. I’m so glad we are at least able to catch up every now and then, considering that I lived life with these ladies on a non-stop basis for many years! They are like family.

Thanks for a fun night, friends! Can’t wait to do it again.

Pumpkin Mantel.

I loved decorating our mantel for fall this year. The photo of the one I pinned for inspiration had lots of different pumpkins on it, so off to Central Market we went! The kids had a great time picking out all different kinds, and even I was surprised at all of the crazy ones they had! I loved some of the bigger ones, but our mantel is only a few inches deep, so we had to stick with smaller pumpkins. And, I didn’t let the kids pick out ones with warts. Those kind give me the heebie-jeebies! SICK! Anyway, I think our {wart-free} mantel turned out perfect!

I made the bunting last year with brown fabric, iron-on interfacing, light brown binding tape, and a hot glue gun. No sewing was required, which made it so easy. Now maybe I need to add a little saying to mine like Emily did to hers- too cute!

fall fashion.

Y’all! The cooler weather is finally here to stay {I think!}. I even got to break out The Boots and my gray scarf last week!!

Annnddd, I was sweaty by lunchtime. UGH. But whatevs. It is October and that means boots and scarves. Period.

The start of October also made me look at all of my wardrobe and get it ready for fall. I concluded that I needed to do a little fall shopping! I went in to Old Navy to grab my favorite tank ever {it is LONG and perfect for layering in the fall/winter!}  in a few more colors, but well, as you can see…

I got a little distracted by all the stripes and polka dots!! I spent less than $80 and got 9 shirts and a scarf. I call that a total shopping success! And I got $30 Old Navy Bucks to use later. Love.

I follow a few fashion blogs- my favorites lately are Jill’s Good Life (for less) and Pinterest Told Me To. Both of these bloggers seem to be doing fashion on a budget well, and I love all of their ideas! I’ve also been pinning a few new fall looks {see below}.

Oh, this just gets me so excited! YAY that fall is here. I’ve made pumpkin bread {twice}, my mantel is full of pumpkins {post coming soon}, Aggie football is in full swing {did you see our win last week?!? I think I aged 20 years in those 3 hours!} and we’re headed to the fair later this week! Happy fall, y’all!

We still have way too much candy around here.

We had such a great Halloween! Our friends the Dempseys came over for what we decided will be our new annual tradition. Everyone arrived around 5 and we had homemade pizzas {with Pioneer Woman’s yummy homemade dough!} and salad= super easy!

After dinner we headed out trick-or-treating. This was our first year to venture out in our new neighborhood, and we were excited to find that the street behind us was perfect! Chloe and Carter were so cute stopping at each house. Carter would go up to the door and say “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet”! It was awesome. His mom had no idea he knew that saying, which made it even more hilarious. The babies {and I am totally still calling my baby a baby, even though he is almost 18 months} stayed in the wagon and enjoyed the perfect weather!

It was definitely a success because we had tons of fun and still have loads of candy!

Can’t wait to do it again next year, Dempseys!

Happy Halloween!

All things fall.

Oh, I love fall. I think I’ve mentioned that already.

Yesterday I opened the windows and made pumpkin bread using this {super easy!} recipe. Oh, it is gooooood. {Just to let you know, if you use Erika’s recipe, she says a little over 30 min. I put mine in a glass bread pan and it took almost an hour for a toothpick to come out clean.}

Last week, my friend Krista and I made some Halloween buckets for our kids. Chloe is going to be Rapunzel and I bought Jack the Old Navy monster costume. It is awesomesauce.

Here’s Chloe trying on the Halloween dress my mom made for her! She found it on Pinterest and I just love it. So does Chloe!

I’m making this chili on Thursday. Yum.

Here are my new fall wreaths. They are a combination of a few Pinterest and blog finds. They aren’t perfect but they were so easy and are good for now!

Here’s a close-up. Don’t judge!

That’s all for now! I’ll let you know how the chili turns out!

Fall + Arboretum = Perfection

It’s {finally} fall!

It’s my favorite time of the year! October is here and the weather is {finally} cooling off. Praise the Lord!  This weekend I got out my fall garb and the house looks festive! I can’t wait to add a few projects from Pinterest to this year’s fall decor.

I do have some sad news. I no longer like the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. Y’all. I’m not sure what happened. I think it has something to do with me ordering one the day I found out I was pregnant with Jack. I have a {strong} aversion to coffee when I’m pregnant. I tried to have one last year but I remember still not loving it. This year I can’t even stand the thought of ordering one! And I am DEFINITELY not preggers. This is crazy because the PSL was basically my way of welcoming fall!

So, instead of welcoming fall with a Starbucks drink, we met some friends at the Dallas Arboretum. It was the perfect place to kick off Fall 2011! We now have a membership and I’m so excited. I know this means we’ll be there often. We enjoyed a picnic lunch playing in the pumpkin patch. I can’t wait to go back!

Lola and Chloe- they are such good friends. I love Chloe’s crazy face in this one!

Here’s the boy checking out the pumpkins. Do you see those eyelashes?! I am so jealous!

Owen and Ella- I can’t believe Ella is 6 months old. And, her momma Krista made her adorable outfit! It is too cute!

Here’s sweet Sophia holding Jack. He adores his Soaps!

I hope you’re not tired of the Arboretum pictures yet, because we are going again soon. This time my goal is to get a picture of both of my kids together. Hopefully looking at the camera and smiling. A momma can always dream, right?

Happy Fall, Peeps!

Thankful

PRAISE THE LORD.)

  • Get home
  • Realize that the unpacking and laundry from our 5 day trip seems insurmountable
  • Finish off Thanksgiving weekend by decorating our Christmas tree with our favorite Christmas album playing in the background

What a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for many things this year. A healthy, bouncing baby Jack coming into our lives. Chloe growing up to be such a sweet little girl. The health of our family and friends. Our new house and God’s provision for our move and even for the troubles we had with all of that. The blessing of becoming a stay at home mom. The list goes on and on. Through the good and the bad, thank you Father for another year full of You.
