Flapjack Party, Take 3!

Jack is THREE! I honestly can’t believe my baby is three.

To celebrate, we had Jack’s Flapjack party last weekend! Perfect weather, yummy breakfast foods, sweet friends and family, and a new bounce house made for another great party!

{We gave this Little Tikes bounce house to Jack for his birthday. Thinking it is going to be the gift that keeps on giving!}

Chloe’s 5th Birthday.

Ok, last post about Chloe’s birthday, I promise. Birthdays are a big deal around here, which means much to document! Trey took Chloe on a date the night before her birthday. Shopping, eating at Hopdoddy’s, and dessert at Yumilicious- sounds like a great date to me! I’m so thankful for a husband that loves spending quality time with his kids. Chloe was so excited. Yes, she’s wearing some lipstick, because I knew it would wear off pretty quickly and she LOVED it!

She got the new Barbie movie for her birthday, so she watched that while we got ready for the day!

After we dropped Jack at school, we made our way to Drybar! It was a surprise and Chloe was so excited. She’s seen my Drybar hair a few times and has begged to go, so off we went! They have a “Shirley Temple” option for kids, so it was perfect!

Our next stop- the Disney Store! She loved that they put her name on the big screen again!

The rest of the day was spent at home with my parents who came in town, then we went out to celebrate at Chuy’s {her pick!} that night.

Whew! Birthday week has come and gone, and it was so much fun! Now Jack’s birthday is 2 months away! Better get to planning!

Pink Pirate Party!

Chloe’s friend Rhett had a pirate party back in November, and since that day, Chloe decided she wanted a party “just like Rhett’s, but pink!”. So, on the hunt I went for pink pirate party invites and decor. I found a party pack at this Etsy shop which made it so easy! It included invites, banners, a sign, party circles, water bottle wraps, hershey’s kiss labels, and so much more. I was so happy to not have to plan any of it- I just had to print, cut it out, and put it all together!

Y’all. I cannot believe this day is already here. Such a cliche to say, but I remember her birthday like it was yesterday. I always tell her the story of how I wanted a baby for a while before God put her in my tummy. I tell her about how when I found out I was going to have her I couldn’t wait to tell her daddy. I tell her how she used to get the hiccups in my belly and how my teacher friends & students would watch her elbows and knees go across my huge stomach. But her favorite story for me to tell is about the day we met.

I tell her how her daddy and I drove to the hospital holding hands, longing for that moment that we knew would be the moment that changed everything. I tell her how when we got to the hospital, her grandparents were ALL already there, even though she wasn’t scheduled to come for another four hours. I tell her how the doctors came in hooked me up to a monitor so we could hear her heart beat, and how it made my dad {former hospital lab director} so mad when the phlebotomist had to stick me four times to find a place for the IV. I tell her when they wheeled me down to a room, they made daddy go change into some doctor clothes so he could hold her as soon as she was here. And then I tell her about the moment I’ll never forget. I always say that when Dr. Crochet peeked Chloe’s head over the sheet and I got to see my baby girl for the first time, I knew right then that this is what I was meant to do. I was meant to be Chloe’s mommy. I tell her that when I looked at her, I said to myself “I know you!” In that moment I felt as if I’d always known her, and I knew that the bond we shared was greater than anything I had ever known.

Five, yes FIVE years later and I cannot imagine my life without this sweet girl! The Lord has blessed us beyond measure to have had five years with her to watch her grow from a baby into a sweet, tender little girl. I know life is precious, and I don’t want to take one moment with her for granted.

Chloe, I love you for so many reasons. Your beautiful smile, your compassion for others, your kindness, your funny sense of humor, and your love for your family and friends make you so special. I thank God for you every day and pray that you will continue to grow closer to Him. I will miss you being four. The toddler years are over, which I loved, but we are entering in the “little girl” phase now. Kindergarten, a new school, new friends, and new experiences will be a part of year five. But no matter grown up my little girl is, you will always be my baby.

Love you lots sweet Chlo-bo. Happy 5th Birthday!!!

Birthday weekend.

T’s birthday was Saturday, so we spent the weekend celebrating his big 3-3!

{Before we really started celebrating on Saturday, Trey ran 10.5 miles and then drove straight to BOOTCAMP. That dude is crazy.}

Anyway, after he got back we took a trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. Then we had lunch at Lili’s and then enjoyed Society Bakery cupcakes, of course! I am so thankful for a husband that wants to spend his birthday doing things with his family!

On Sunday I ran my scheduled 10.5 miles with my running partner, Christina! Whew, glad that is over. Now I only have to tackle a 12, 13.1 {T and I are running a half in September}, 14, 17, and 20 miles before the marathon. That sounds crazy! I can’t believe I’m actually doing this. After my run we had lunch with friends from college that we hadn’t seen in years! We had such a great time catching up with them. We ate at The String Bean and they have a PLAYROOM. Oh my word, that is genius! We were able to have adult conversation while the kids played. We’ll be back there, for sure.

When we weren’t doing all of that, we were marathoning through Friday Night Lights! We’re almost through season 4, and that means only one season left! How will it all end? Will Riggins and Lila end up together? Will he get that land? What about Saracen and Julie??? And will Coach Taylor lead the East Dillon Lions to state??? Oh, the possibilities! We can’t wait to see how it all ends.

It was a great birthday weekend! Today starts our last week at home before school starts. We’re making it count with a few play dates and lots of swimming {if it doesn’t rain all week}! Here’s to a good ending to our sweet summer!

32.

Well, I turned the big 3-2 on Monday. I had a great day celebrating with my family, including my sweet momma who was in town for Sam’s birth. It was fun drinking coffee and hanging out in the morning with my mom and the kids!

Chloe surprised me with this cute coffee mug that she picked out- which just happened to be on my Wish List for NYC! I love it! T spoiled me with a cute jacket from Lululemon. I can’t wait for it to get cool so I can wear it.

One of the perks of being a contributor to Dallas Moms Blog is that we occasionally get freebies thrown our way. It just so happened that I got to go get a free blowout on my birthday at Drybar. Oh my word, y’all. It was so fun and I think I’m addicted. I’ll be writing about it next week on DMB, but will you look at my hair?! Love!

Then, in Clemens’ fashion, we ate lunch at Chuy’s, of course!

I spent the afternoon with the kids {with an obligatory trip to Starbucks and Target, thankyouverymuch} and then we all went and had tacos for dinner. I know you’re not surprised I picked a taco place after having Chuy’s for lunch- surely you know by now I could eat Tex-Mex every meal of my life!

Then I enjoyed a slice of this:

Our community group surprised me with a Society Bakery cake on Sunday! I love our group and am so thankful God has placed them in our lives. And I love that they spoiled me with one of my favorite things in the world. They sure do know how to make a girl feel special!

I can’t believe I’m really in my thirties. But, alas, I am. And I must say, I’m enjoying the heck out of ‘em. Here’s to 32 being the best year yet!

More Birthday Pics.

I had to post a few more pictures of Jack’s birthday fun. We went to the Dallas Zoo, ate pizza for lunch, had a family dinner at Jack’s favorite- Chuy’s- and then ended our night with yummy cake and outside playtime! It was such a sweet day. Perfect weather, sweet boy, friends, family, cake… can’t get much better!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Jack!

Oh, Jack! You are TWO today! Where has the time gone? I remember I found out I was pregnant with you on Friday, September 11, 2009. Your daddy was in LA for work and I couldn’t wait to tell him, so I called him at 6am {which was 4am in California!}. I was in the Starbucks drive through getting a Pumpkin Spice Latte, which by the way would be my last drink of coffee for 9 months because I hated it during pregnancy! Anyway, your daddy was so excited and couldn’t wait to come home. We all went to Tillman’s to celebrate that night after he got back in town.

Then I remember finding out you were a boy. It was Christmas Eve 2009 and we had our sonogram a few days before and had the technician write it in a card. We put Chloe to bed, then sat on the couch and opened up the card, and it said BOY! You should have seen your daddy- he was SO excited saying “yes, yes, YES!!!” I’m so glad you were a boy, too, because we both thought it would be so fun to have one of each!

Then there was the day you were born. May 14, 2010 at 10:01 am. When your sweet blonde head peeked over the curtain, I was instantly and completely in love. I remember just praising God in that moment for blessing me with you. And then they said your weight- NINE pounds even, JUST like your sister! You came out screaming and I wasn’t sure you would ever stop {it took us two rounds of feeding and us all getting settled in our room before you calmed down!}. Now those sweet newborn hospital days seem like ages ago. We brought you home to our new house in Dallas and our little family of four was complete!

Well, it’s TWO years later and I can’t remember life without you. You have brought our family so much joy! Your sister adores you and takes care of you in so many ways. You are each others’ best friend, for sure! Your daddy loves having a boy. You are always playing ball, getting dirty, or carrying around a car or train, and it makes him so happy to have someone to do boy stuff with. And, you know your mommy loves you! Your sweet kisses and “I wove you” make my heart melt. Oh, and the curls. I can’t stand it- you are just so cute.

We pray that you grow up to be a man who puts God first. We pray you lead and serve your wife, love and serve your children, and grow to be a man who seeks God for wisdom in the good times and the bad. But, we also pray that this time of your childhood would go slow so that we can soak in every minute of your innocence.

We love you, Jackie, and can’t wait for all that is ahead in the coming year. Happy Birthday, sweet baby boy!

Jack’s 2nd Birthday Party

We had such a great weekend celebrating our little man’s birthday. Friends and family came over Saturday morning for his “Flapjack” themed party. Jack was so excited all of his favorite people were here to celebrate with him!

Jack was sneaking donut holes long before the party officially started.

Here was the spread {muffin and egg/bacon recipes linked here and I’ll post the casserole recipes soon}:

Here’s the Birthday Boy blowing out his candles!

I didn’t get a picture of all of the guests :( but here are some that I did get:

Cookie and Dandy were so happy to have all six grandkids under one roof:

I ordered 40 Instagram prints from Postal Pix and strung them around the house. I think everyone enjoyed seeing pictures of Jack throughout the year!

The police car hasn’t left his hands since opening his presents :)!

Whew! Another successful party has come and gone! I love seeing all of our friends and family in one place at one time. Thanks everyone for celebrating with us! Now for his birthday tomorrow…. the Dallas Zoo with friends, Chuy’s, and a cake from Society Bakery are on the agenda!

It’s birthday week for Jack!

He is so excited about his birthday! He wakes up every morning saying “My birfday’s comin’ up!” When you ask him what he wants for his birthday, he says Pancakes and Spiderman. He know’s he’s turning two and will try so hard to show us his two with his fingers, even though he can’t get it quite down yet!

I’m so excited for his party this weekend, but a little sad that my baby is going to be two. *Sniff* We’re using the same theme, decorations, and menu as last year {with a few changes to keep it fun!} so it has been fairly easy to get everything ready.

Here’s the menu for Saturday. Oh, yum.

  • Flapjacks and homemade syrup {my daddy’s recipe}
  • Trey’s mom’s cheese casserole {recipe coming}
  • My mom’s sausage egg casserole {a family favorite}
  • Pioneer Woman’s French Breakfast Puffs {we had these for the first time at an Easter brunch and they were so good!}
  • Donut Hole Skewers {from Pinterest!}
  • These “Egg and Bacon” snacks {from Pinterest}
  • Fresh fruit tray

I think that’s it! Whew, I have a lot to do before Saturday morning! I’ve ordered some Instagram prints {are you an Instagram-er? If so, follow me @ssclemens and I’ll follow back!} to string around the house and the kids’ new pajamas came in this week. I’ve finished up his birthday shopping, so now it’s just decorating and cooking. I better get busy!
