Happy July!

Well, one month of the summer is gone. June went by way too fast and I’m hoping July will slow down a bit. I know the summer will be over before we know it!

We had a great 4th of July that included fireworks, ice cream, friends, a parade, Chuy’s, swimming, steaks, and more!

I know you’ll probably agree that it was a little sad that the 4th fell on a Wednesday this year… I like it more when we can make a whole weekend out of the celebrating! But, we only have one more day until the weekend and that is nice! We have a busy one planned that includes a birthday party and trying out another new place to eat.

I hope your 4th was happy & fabulous!

Fourth of July

We had a great, looong holiday weekend! We celebrated the fourth by going to our neighborhood parade. This was our first year to participate, and we realized that no one actually watches the parade, but everyone in the neighborhood is IN the parade! We were one of only a handful of families who set up chairs to watch, but the kids still loved it. We’ll be sure to decorate the wagon and be in the parade next year!

Mia came along and we are so glad she did. Chloe and Mia have so much fun together. Snow cones, a bounce house, and a little hula-hooping made their day! Poor Jack, it was during his nap time so he was so sleepy but he made it without really getting upset.  (oh, and he LOVED the fire truck! such a boy!)

Sorry for being M.I.A.

Wow, I can’t believe it has been two weeks! I am sorry for anyone who happens upon my blog, I’ve been a bad blogger!

The summer is flying by! We have been so busy the last couple of weeks. I wrapped up my first two summer classes, and now I am in the middle of my next class. Only two more to go (one in August and one in the fall) and I will graduate in December. Yay.

We had a few friends over for the 4th and played Rock Band and Settlers. If you haven’t played either of these fun things, you must! Trey left the next morning for Vegas. He and his dad took a father/son trip to see UFC 86. If you don’t know what that is, e-mail Trey and he’ll be sure to tell you the 100 reasons why UFC is just about the coolest thing in the world right now. At least he thinks so. Anyway, they had a great time and I know it was a good time for them to spend together. When they were gone Bebe (Trey’s dad’s wife) came in to keep me and Chlo company. We worked on my classroom and she even brought me her old sewing machine! Yes, I have turned in to Mrs. Susie Homemaker! I made curtains for my classroom this week, they turned out as well as can be expected for a first-time seamstress.

Rock Band is fun!

Trey with 155 lb. UFC Champion B.J. Penn. Trey says he’s pretty sure he can take him.

On Friday, July 11th, I got my iPhone!!! After six hours of waiting in line, a cel phone number change, and a few inappropriate texts and phone calls which led to another cel phone number change, I am proud to be a happy iPhone owner. It does some really cool things- one of my favorites is you can hold it up to any song (on the radio, in a movie, in an elevator) and it will tell you the name of the song, the artist, and finds it on iTunes and You Tube for you. Crazy, I know.

This is after six hours of waiting in line (with Chloe, who did great!)…I was next to go in to the Apple store! Little did I know the drama that was ahead! Thanks, Nick (my Apple sales rep) for making sure I left the store with an iPhone!

Friday night we went on our second date night (yes, we realize we must do this more) since Chloe was born. We started out by going to Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. They aren’t kidding when they say their steaks come out on 500 degree plates! I didn’t test it but they sure seemed that hot. Dinner was outstanding and then we headed for a milkshake (me) and a concrete (Trey) for dessert. Thanks Aunt J-Dub and Uncle Rico for babysitting! It was much needed couple time for us and we are thankful that Chloe got to hang with you!

And, of course, an update on Miss Chloe. She is doing great! Her new favorite thing is sweet potatoes! She can’t seem to get enough. Last night at church she didn’t get “kicked out” of nursery, which is a first. When I got there to pick her up she was peacefully sleeping in one of their jail-like cribs. It was priceless! She is rolling over, laughing and talking, and her favorite toy right now is her “froggy”.

I usually do a little better about not getting so much on her, but this day she must have really enjoyed her sweet potatoes!

So, that’s the update. I promise to be a better blogger in the near future, but come August 18th (a.k.a. back-to-work) I will be on my “school-time” schedule of blogging :-(

The 4th and a Weekend Get-away

>Whew! What a busy week we had! First we hosted the Clemens’ 1st annual 4th of July party! We were sick of not having anything fun to do on the Fourth. Believe me, we’ve tried everything… don’t even get me started on all of the horrible events we’ve been to over the last five years… obviously not one of our past celebrations turned out to be a tradition. What’s the 4th without something fun to do that you look forward to every year? So, we are taking it upon ourselves to now have something that (hopefully!) everyone looks forward to each year. This year we had a Hand and Foot tournament. It is our favorite card game and it turned out to be a lot of fun for everyone. Way to go Ems for your first tournament championship ever. You rock! We have the nicest and coolest friends, and we are happy we had the chance to hang out with all of them in one evening! Thanks guys!

Here’s the champ Emily with Trey (he was only her partner for the last round so he was not the other champion.)

The next morning, we headed to Hot Springs, AR with Trey’s dad and his wife. We had a blast! We stayed in a lake-side condo just outside the city. While they all went golfing, I spent my days on the patio reading and sleeping. It was the most fun! We ate at great restaurants and even played miniature golf one night (and, by the way, I got not one, not two, but THREE holes-in-one! I am the miniature golf champion.) So, although I wouldn’t call it a “vacation”, Trey and I did get to get away for the weekend to somewhere other than rainy Texas…although I heard that while we were gone, Summer finally arrived. Now that it’s here, it’s sure to stay and bring that 100 degree weather we’ve all been looking forward to. :-)
