Lord help me, he’s definitely TWO!

Jack got a hair cut yesterday! Doesn’t he look handsome?

We just did a little trim on the back and got it out of his face! It was way too long! Oh, and that’s his new “cool” pose. Anytime we are jamming to some tunes in the car, I look back and he’s doing this face and nodding his head with the beat. Boy am I in for it, right?!

Well, he’s definitely TWO. It’s like the day after his birthday he decided to become rotten! I love him so, but man has this month been a challenge! He says NO to me all the time, tries to hit me, can’t stand it when I tell him NO and throws the most awful tantrums! We’ve learned that spanking isn’t working for him like it did for Chloe. Time out is much more effective which is crazy to me. A spanking doesn’t phase him, but if he has to sit alone for a couple of minutes he gets over it and we move on. Meal time is definitely the hardest part of the day- he just doesn’t eat. And because he’s in the 8th percentile and is anemic, he HAS to eat. So, we sit at the table for what seems like forever convincing him to eat little bites of food. It’s a beating for sure.

Also, I’m that mom at Target that I used to judge. You know, the one that has the screaming 2-year-old in her cart? The mom that buys snacks and Icees and toys and whatever it takes to get you to stop screaming, please for the LOVE?? Yeah, that’s me. Humble pie is what I call that, folks.

But, the sweet moments are plenty, too. He loves to cuddle, loves to sit and read book after book, and has the sweetest interactions with his sister when they are playing. He loves to “cook” for me in Chloe’s kitchen, always sure to bring me a pink cookie and a coke with ‘nilla {he knows my favorites!}. He gets so excited about anything related to Cars and says “Ka-chow” {like Lightning McQueen} when he likes something a lot. When you ask him to show you his muscles it’s possibly the cutest thing in the world. He gives the best kisses and says “I love you momma” without being prompted.

I just bought Good and Angry, a Christian parenting book a few friends are reading, and it has already been helpful. Oh, and the Jesus Calling devotional has made a huge impact on my attitude lately, too. I know this is just a phase. Chloe’s “terrible twos” {if you can even call them that!} only lasted a couple of months, so I’m hoping this is a short ride.

Oh, and one more thing. One evening last week, this happened:

Great rehearsal dinner pic, don’t you think? Poor boy! But we laughed and laughed when he came out of Chloe’s room in a Dora dress. You know Chloe had so much fun dressing him up! He would say “I a princess” and twirl around. I love that boy!

Oh I hate humble pie ( and am very familiar with the taste by now)! Toddlerhood was hard for us with Ben so hang in there. Boys are a different creature (but when they are sweet, man are they sweeeet. ) I used to marvel at my friend’s discipline successes with their toddler daughters. If you ever need to vent, you know where to find me! xoxoxo

Oh thanks for the encouragement, Cortney! I’m so glad I’m not alone in this… sometimes it feels that way! And yes, this boy is throwing me for a loop! I thought I had it all figured out- now I know that it was just that I had a GIRL first! Ha!

What a cutie! And, thank goodness, right?! I can definitely relate to the two-year-oldness you are experiencing. Hang in there. The hard stuff will pass, and, hopefully, you’ll just be left with the sweet stuff. My daughter used to dress up my oldest son, too. He was often seen prancing around in a hot pink feather boa! It was precious at the time and doesn’t seem to have had any lasting ill-effect on him.

Thanks for sharing, Mandi! I know lots of sisters that dress up their little brothers, and I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of it! Next time he’ll probably be in heels and makeup! :)

I sure hope this is normal, because Beckham is a handful too! Thank goodness spankings do work on him and I can just walk towards the spoon drawer and he snaps out of it. Jack sure is a cutie. Can’t wait for him and Becks to play next week!

We are going through the SAME thing right now with tyler (i think him and jack are only days apart). It was like a switch flipped when he turned two! Glad to know there are other mommys walking through this right now!

    • Sherry says:

Aw thanks for commenting Katy! Seriously, it’s like they woke up and said “Hey I’m two, so now I’ll be rotten!” And you have another little one to take care of! Holy moly, hang in there! You can do it! :)

  5. Cutie pie Jack!! I hope it is just a phase that will pass quickly! Don’t worry I am that mom in Target too!
